Grand Opening Set for New City of Millbrook Police and Municipal Court Complex | Events
(Millbrook, AL) – Mayor Al Kelley, city council members, elected officials and distinguished guests will gather Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 10:00 am for dedication and ribbon cutting ceremonies for the new City of Millbrook Police and Municipal Court Building located at 3900 Grandview Road. Numerous dignitaries from the state, county and local level will be present for the morning ceremonies.
The building is a single story complex stretching along Grandview Road in the heart of the city. The new complex replaces the facility which has served these city departments for several decades and is adjacent to the Millbrook Fire Department. The new 18,000+ square foot facility houses the Millbrook Police Department headquarters, which includes the police dispatch operations, an officer briefing/training area, security holding cells, police offices, conference rooms, and other operations. In addition, the new construction houses the Millbrook Municipal Court Department, which includes the courtroom, attorney offices, meeting space and court administrative office spaces. The courtroom will also serve as the city council chambers, the location of all city council meetings, and the spacious meeting room will provide much needed space for city council work sessions. The firm 2WR Inc. provided architectural design services and guidance for the project. Russell Construction was the general contractor for the project.
Recognizing the need, the City of Millbrook leadership made the decision in early 2011 to design and execute the construction of a new building to serve the Millbrook Police and Municipal Court departments and allow the City of Millbrook to better position itself for future growth. Mayor Al Kelley says, “These are exciting times for the City of Millbrook, this new facility will elevate and equip our police and court departments, which will allow both to better serve the citizens of our community.” He adds, “It has been a pleasure to work with the team of Mike Watson, of 2WR Inc., and Steve Russell of Russell Construction to design and build exactly what is needed.”
The City of Millbrook, located just north of Montgomery along Interstate 65, is home to approximately 15,000 residents within its incorporated area. A family oriented community, its rapid population growth during recent decades placed it among the fastest growing cities in the state. Millbrook was recently ranked second most business-friendly city in the state.
