Shoney’s® Offers Free All-American Burger™ to All Veterans and Troops on Memorial Day

Shoney’s®, an all-American iconic restaurant brand, will remember America’s fallen military members this Memorial Day (Monday, May 27) by serving a free All-American Burger™ to all veterans and active duty military members.

“It’s our way of saying ‘Thank You!’ to the heroes who fought for our freedom while treating our veterans and troops to a great American burger on Memorial Day,” said David Davoudpour, Chairman and CEO of Shoney’s.

According to Davoudpour, service members will be treated to Shoney’s Signature favorite All-American Burger, a freshly prepared, hand-pattied, grain-fed, 100% ground beef, cooked to order burger, served on a toasted corn-dusted bun with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles and mayonnaise.

“It’s been a guest favorite for many years,” said Davoudpour.

Methodist Churches Unite for the 4th Annual Great Day of Service

Methodist Churches Unite for the 4th Annual Great Day of Service

The United Methodist Churches of the River Region are coming together to serve shoulder to shoulder as followers of Jesus on Saturday, April 13, for the 4th Annual Great Day of Service. Thousands of volunteers from approximately 50 United Methodist churches will be working with various agencies and groups on hundreds of projects in the Montgomery, Prattville, Millbrook, Wetumpka, and Clanton areas, to share the love of God by serving our communities.

Project organizer, Ashley Davis, said, “Great Day of Service is an exciting way to make people aware of local needs and begin to serve those in our community. While many local churches and individuals are involved in Christ's mission to the world throughout the year, choosing this day to focus on service encourages even more people to get involved. Great Day of Service also connects churches and individuals so that we can accomplish together what we could not on our own.”

AUM athletics give back to community for MLK Day

AUM athletics give back to community for MLK Day

In conjunction with the university-wide Martin Luther King Day of Service initiative, several of the Auburn Montgomery athletic programs took part in a variety of community service projects across the area over the past week.

Representatives from baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, cheerleading, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s cross country all participated or have plans to participate in the initiative.

“It’s outstanding to see such widespread community engagement from our athletic programs,” Athletics Director Steve Crotz said. “Giving back to Montgomery is very important to AUM athletics, and there is no better time to emphasize this point than around a holiday celebrating a man who did so much, both for Montgomery and our nation as a whole.”

The AUM baseball team traveled up to Millbrook to assist the Alabama Wildlife Federation at a local pond.
