Rodger's and Hammerstein's South Pacific Directed by A. John Collier Musical Direction by Larry Bills Choreography by Julie C. Wilson

Set in an island paradise during World War II, two parallel love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. Nellie, a spunky nurse from Arkansas, falls in love with a mature French planter, Emile. Nellie learns that the mother of his children was an island native and, unable to turn her back on the prejudices with which she was raised, refuses Emile's proposal of marriage. Meanwhile, the strapping Lt. Joe Cable denies himself the fulfillment of a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl with whom he's fallen in love out of the same fears that haunt Nellie. When Emile is recruited to accompany Joe on a dangerous mission that claims Joe's life, Nellie realizes that life is too short not to seize her own chance for happiness, thus confronting and conquering her prejudices.

Boxer is a wonderful girl we brought back from Tuscaloosa after the tornadoes to help the shelter there.  She is about a year old, 35-40 lbs, very attentive, loves everyone and is great with other dogs.  She looks like a mix of a Shepherd and a Chocolate Lab and seems to have the best of both breeds which means she will be a great girl for a family.  Our adoption fee for dogs is $100 for dogs & we have two very special adoption pricing options for our cats right now, all of which completely covers the mandatory spay or neuter, basic immunizations, de-worming, microchip, heartworm check for dogs, rabies vaccination if old enough, and a free health exam with your veterinarian. To see Boxer or any of our other great pets, come to the shelter at 255 Central Plank Road, Wetumpka, AL, 36092, or go to our website at www.elmorehumane.org .

An autographed Bear Bryant hat could be yours

An autographed Bear Bryant hat could be yours

The chances of having a hat hand signed by Paul "Bear" Bryant himself is slim to none, however a bessemer native actually has the hat, and he has a mission for it. A former Bessemer police officer used to drive coach bryant to legion field for the games, and one day the "Bear" gave the officer son one of his signature fedoras with his signature inside.

Several years passed and the officer son is a grown man now and at first he did not want to sell the hat, yet his ways on getting a down payment on a house for his family has started to look slim. So he decided to pass this piece of history on to someone else, and for the right price it could be yours.  He plans to put the hat on eBay.com  and the hat should be up on the site within the next two days.

Good news to hear about former Gov. Bob Riley

The former governor is currently being treated in a Fairbanks, Alaska hospital after sustaining several broken bones and a punctured lung in an accident Sunday afternoon. Governor Riley was wearing a helmet, and doctors have now made some upgrades of his condition from fair to good. The accident occurred while former Governor Riley was travelling on a dirt and gravel road. As it began to rain, he hit a slick spot and had to lay the motorcycle down to avoid losing control.

“I was relieved to hear that my friend, former Governor Riley will make a full recovery,” Speaker Hubbard said.
