Millbrook baseball team reaching out to OK team it played over the weekend

The Millbrook Sox

MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA)- It's more than a game for some baseball players in Elmore County, they're showing what good sportsmanship is off the field.

On Saturday, players with the Millbrook Sox, all under the age of seven, played the Mudcats from Moore, Oklahoma during the Alabama Super NIT Tournament in Opelika.

The Mudcats' hometown would soon be devastated by an EF-5 tornado.

Now, the Sox are reaching out to help their former opponents with prayers and donations raised from parents of their players at this week's practices.

Coach Brandon Barrett said several of the players' parents reached out to parents of those on the Mudcats' team to make sure they made it home safe.

A sign on the fence at The Sox's practice field proclaims, "Beyond the Field" as a way of showing that important things of life can go beyond the baseball field.

Bugs & Coon are two Pointer mixes (male & Female) whose owner could no longer afford to keep.  They are four years old and have not been hunted as they lived primarily a kenneled life. They are sweet dogs, a bit shy at first, but typical Pointers in that they quickly start smooching for attention. They will need large and well fenced yards so they can romp and be safe.

This is a newsletter chocked full of shout-outs to people and groups who helped us in a big way recently.  We first want to thank Helicity Montgomery & the Montgomery Street Fair, Carriage Hills Animal Hospital and The Predator’s Motorcycle Association for inviting us to join in the fun of the 2nd Annual Montgomery Street Fair earlier this month.  We enjoyed visiting with lots of pet loving people so that more people know about our shelter and greatly appreciate the Predator’s for joining the fun and raising some money for our critters!

Elmore Co. man sentenced to 30 years in prison for making child porn

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA)- An Elmore County man who raped two boys and used his cell phone to take pictures of the crimes has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, between 2007 and 2012, 25-year-old Joshua Ray Parton raped two boys, a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old on multiple occasions. Parton used his cell phone camera to capture images of his molestation of the children.

Parton pleaded guilty back in December 2012.

Statements made by the families of the victims reflect the severe and long-lasting suffering that the children have been through and continue to cope with. In handing down the 30-year prison sentence, Judge Myron Thompson noted the immeasurable trauma that Parton's actions had wreaked in the lives of his child victims and their families.

Millbrook dedicates new police and court facility

MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA)- Ribbon
cuttings and building dedications are on the schedule for cities across the
state almost every day. In Millbrook, Tuesday's dedication was much more
than moving in a new building.  It's the story of town, incorporated less
than 40 years ago with 6,000 residents, now bursting at the seams with more
than 15,000.

The seismic growth left the police department to function in an 8,000 square
foot building, along with the local court.  Now, the new facility boasts
more than double the space, topping out at $3.6 million.

"We've come a long way, this is a big day for the police department, and the
City of Millbrook," Chief P.K. Johnson explains.

Investigators who once shared an office, now have a legitimate workspace.
And while it's no where anyone wants to visit, if you're booked in the jail,
you likely won't have to share a cell.
